Kira Weiss is a Ph.D. candidate in ethnomusicology at University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a BA in Music and International Studies (Humboldt State University) and an MA in ethnomusicology (UCSB).
From 2022-2024, Kira conducted two years of research in Egypt as a Fulbright grantee and doctoral fellow at the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). From 2024-2025, she was a fellow at the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) at the American University in Cairo. As a cellist, Kira performs in multiple ensembles in Cairo including Firqat al-Haramlek and the National Arab Music Heritage Ensemble. |
